So many questions have been about importing lately – which is fabulous – and I realize that it might help for you all to see step by step what to look for on the import screen. You get to the import screen from Lightroom by attaching your camera (if you have the preferences set this way) or pressing CTRL/CMD + SHIFT + I on your keyboard.
This is the main import dialog you get when you push CTRL/CMD + SHIFT I
In the top middle, Lightroom tells you what it is going to do with the files. Mine is set to MOVE them to another folder in the catalog which I would recommend even if you are going to keep everything on the same drive. If you are keeping them on the same drive, setup a NEW folder called NEWscrapbooking or something similar so it is easy for you to distinguish what is actually in your LR catalog and what LR didn't import.
The right side shows the destination file folder – for me everything goes to my EHD in 0KJLScrapbookingOriginals. Because it says above "Organize" and then the drop down box is set to "By Original Folders" Lightroom automatically moves the items into the downloads folder on my hard drive – for first time importers, that will keep items moving from their old scrapbooking file designer folders to new scrapbooking files in the same designers.
You can see exactly where the files are going to by scrolling down until you see check marks and counts next to the folders – this is where your supplies will be moved to.
Hopefully being able to see the actual screens makes things a little easier. You may also find this video helpful.
