In this video we move into ratings and keywords – there are notes a few more items below.
You can download the PDF handout here. A few notes:
- Double click on an image in grid mode to view it alone.
- Use your arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate between photos.
- Hit "X" on your keyboard to reject an image.
- Hit "G" on your keyboard to return to Grid view in the Library mode.
- Hit "U" on your keyboard to remove a flag
- To compare two images, click on the first image in the grid and then CTRL/CMD Click on the second and hit "C" on your keyboard.
- Press CTRL/CMD + Delete to delete the rejected images in your folder view. You will also need to choose "Delete from Disk" to permanently delete the images from your hard drive – no use choosing "Remove" and eventually having to find them again and sort through them.
One other note about keywords – I keyword everything now. It is so important to me that my photos have the information in them that allows me to find what I need when I need it. I also think it is important to tell the stories of the photos you keep.
One last item I neglected to cover in the photo is captions. My goal in my workflow right now is that every photo that gets a star rating of 1 star or higher also gets a caption. In my captions I include things that aren't in the metadata, keywords or EXIF. Things like the story of the photo that you just can't say with keywords.
To add captions in the photos I just imported:
- Select Previous Import folder under Catalog.
- Select Attribute from the Filter Bar and then Filter down to images > or = to 1 star.
- Click on the first photo and then scroll down to the Metadata panel on the right.
- Click in the caption field and type your caption.
- Click on the next photo and repeat until done with all the photos in the import.
You can also catch how to add a caption in Lightroom in this video.
Enjoy!

Kayla,
I think I have missed where you posted your keyword list for your Photos. Would you please direct me to where that is located?
Thank you so much for all the time and detail spent on this series. It’s amazing!!
